CYOA

The CYOA System

Some of you may be familiar with the concept of “Choose Your Own Adventure” from other media. In story telling, it means that the reader is able to affect the outcome by making choices during the story. In video games, you already have that power. For Slave Craft, it is the mechanic that controls how you start a new game.

Before you start a new game, you are given points, and can select from a series of options. Every option changes some aspect of the game, and can either cost or award points. Options that are beneficial will cost points, while options with drawbacks award points. You cannot start the game if you have a point deficit.

There will be many options available for arranging your perfect game-play experience. Here are some of the categories:

Objectives

This is the primary mechanism for gaining points. You’ll be able to choose your own objectives for the game. Picking objectives will award you points to spend. Don’t take too many though; failing an objective will result in a loss. Succeed however, and your reward is an open world without the burden of a quest timer. You aren’t required to select an objective for the game, however you may have to pick more drawbacks or face a harder game at the start.

Character

Your character can either be selected from a set of pre-made character models, or you can customize one yourself. You’ll be able to change any feature of your character, restricted only by the point cost. This includes all Stats, Traits, Skills, and Body Stats. Plenty of advantages, drawbacks, and customization in this category.

Starting Resouces

This category covers a broad range of options. Some of the options include:

  • How much money you start with.
  • What sort of home you begin the game with. Homeless is a planned option.
  • What privileges you are granted through titles and permits.
  • What guilds or group memberships you belong to.
  • Who starts the game with you as companions, or slaves.

Custom Scenarios

Custom Scenarios will be pre-made configurations that can change the game and world drastically. Think of them like custom scenarios. They can customize objectives, character, resources, or even make changes to the map, NPCs, AI or anything else. You will only be able to select one, and it will most likely disable other options in the CYOA system.

Modding

All the core CYOA options are implemented as mods themselves. Modders are be able to add, replace, change, or remove CYOA options from the game.
